Meet Togepi, Pichu and other Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region. During the holidays, Trainers will also be able to encounter a Pikachu wearing a festive hat in the game.

The Pokémon Company International and Niantic, Inc. have announced the first Pokémon additions to Pokémon Go. Today, starting at 18:00 (GMT), Trainers around the world will be able to add Togepi, Pichu and certain other Pokémon originally discovered in the Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version video games (English-language content) to their Pokémon Go Pokédex. Trainers can find these Pokémon by collecting Eggs at PokéStops. Once hatched, these Eggs may reveal a Togepi, a Pichu or other Pokémon newly available in the game. In addition, from December 12, 2016 at 19:00 until December 29, 2016 at 20:00, Trainers around the world will be able to encounter a special version of Pikachu. This Pikachu will be wearing a special hat for the holiday season and will appear frequently for Trainers. Christmas Pikachu Pokémon Go "As we approach 2017, we are grateful for the tremendous support we have received from the Pokémon Go user community, and we are excited to give them the opportunity to catch some original Pokémon," Kei Kawai, Product Director at Niantic, Inc., told us. "We are also looking forward to celebrating the holiday season with our fans by introducing a Pikachu wearing a festive hat and giving Trainers another reason to go outside and rediscover their neighborhoods with their friends and family during the holidays." "Fans around the world quickly embraced Pokémon Go because it allows them to encounter Pokémon—these icons of gaming's popular culture—in the real world. Thanks to Niantic's mobile game development techniques, hundreds of millions of Pokémon Go players have completed their Pokédexes with more than 100 Pokémon while exploring their region," J.C. Smith, Director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International, told us. "The ability to hatch certain Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region is only the first phase of adding Pokémon to the game, allowing Trainers to continue expanding their Pokédex while having fun."
