Car enthusiasts will be able to drive the luxurious sports sedan this fall, ahead of its arrival at dealerships next year
Today, Electronic Arts Inc. and BMW Group, the world's leading manufacturer of premium cars and motorcycles, announced that the new BMW M5 will make its first laps in Need for Speed Payback, the racing and action game launching later this year. BMW is revealing a car for the first time as part of a partnership with a video game, with the new BMW M5 from the game on display at gamescom, Europe's major event for video games and interactive entertainment. The new BMW M5 embraces the traditional concept of the four-door luxury sedan, highly popular with drivers who love speed and adrenaline. Need for Speed Payback players will therefore discover the new M xDrive all-wheel-drive system this fall during their high-speed adventures through the streets and stunning landscapes of Fortune Valley.
"The new BMW M5 is a fabulous car," said Marcus Nilsson (Executive Producer at Ghost Games). "With its immense power and stunning design, our players will love getting behind the wheel of the new M5. Whether completing intense heist missions, evading the police in epic pursuits or simply cruising through the open world, this car, synonymous with performance, speed and desirability, is already one of the most iconic cars in Need for Speed Payback."
With the M5, BMW's M series is entering a new dimension: with 600 horsepower, maximum torque of 750 Nm, combined fuel consumption of 10.5 l/100 km and 241 g/km of CO2 on the combined cycle, the model promises to be especially powerful and efficient. The new M xDrive all-wheel-drive system developed by BMW M GmbH, the best ever seen in this segment, will be a valuable asset given the variety of surfaces in Need for Speed Payback.
"The letter M no longer simply stands for power; it now evokes the Ultimate Driving Machine, a car that promises unparalleled driving pleasure. Look at the new BMW M5: with its power, torque, performance, M xDrive all-wheel drive and stunning design, it has a rightful place in Need for Speed," added Frank van Meel (President of BMW's M division). "Although the M5's official release will not take place until next spring, Need for Speed players will be the first to drive it, exclusively in Need for Speed Payback. The entire BMW M team is truly proud of this collaboration."
"BMW M fans are young, enthusiastic and 100% dedicated to their passion, but the same is true of the millions of players around the world who love Need for Speed. BMW is about the pleasure and passion of motoring, both in real life and in virtual worlds," said Hildegard Wortmann (Senior Vice President of the BMW brand). "Through this cooperation, BMW is reaching an authentically digital audience. Millions of players will be able to discover the exceptional BMW M5, a true dream car, before it actually goes on sale. This is an example of successful cooperation in modern marketing, with benefits for everyone. The event also marks a new milestone following the debut of the BMW M2 in Need for Speed in 2015."
