Charon of Acheron is an Earth-class Specter, meaning that he is a lower-ranking Specter. He wears a Surplice, a black armor that represents the symbol of his evil star. His star is the Heavenly Star of the Crossing, which refers to the mythological character Charon, the ferryman of the Underworld who transports the souls of the dead across the Acheron River. In the manga and anime, Charon first appears at the Sanctuary, where he confronts Shun of Andromeda. He manages to defeat him and take him aboard his boat, but he is then confronted by Orpheus of Lyra, who has returned from the Underworld to save his love, Eurydice. Charon is impressed by Orpheus's music, which soothes his tormented soul, and agrees to let them pass.
