Who will be able to preload GTA 6?
Rockstar distinguishes between two situations. A digital preorder allows you to preload as soon as the November 10 window opens: at midnight on PS5 in France, followed by 1 a.m. on Xbox Series X|S. The boxed version contains a download code, with no disc. Rockstar says it will be available for shipping or collection from November 12; you will be able to download the game after receiving and activating the code. An order that is still in transit does not provide preload access. Official digital times; box announcement.
Digital preloading also applies to the Standard Edition; the Ultimate Edition is not required. The box code can be used as soon as you receive it. For PlayStation, the code region must match the account region; Rockstar states that Xbox codes are not region-locked. Preloading means transferring and installing the files before launch; it does not let you play early. Rockstar says GTA 6 will unlock on November 19 at midnight local time on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox preload time (1 a.m. in Paris) is therefore separate from the release time. Official regional times.
On PS5: prepare the automatic download
- Open the Game Library using the PlayStation account that placed the preorder, then find GTA 6 in your collection.
- On the preorder page, open the countdown and check that automatic downloading of the desired content is enabled.
- Make sure the console remains connected to the internet, including in Rest Mode if you plan to let the transfer run overnight.
- From November 10 at midnight in France, check the download status in the library or download queue; if the Download button appears, select it.

On Xbox Series X|S: check the installation
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the preorder or activated the code.
- Enable automatic updates and leave the console on or in Standby mode if you are waiting for an automatic download.
- From November 10 at 1 a.m. Paris time, search for GTA 6 in your library or on its Microsoft Store page, then start the installation if the preload option appears.
- Open My games & apps and the queue to track the transfer progress.
- If you are using an Xbox Series S, make sure the storage location selected for the installation has the space requested by the console.
The Rockstar preload FAQ recommends automatic updates and Standby mode on Xbox. GTA 6's exact path in the French store should be checked again when the download opens. Do not confuse a small preparatory installation or a library tile with the game's complete files.
How much free space should you set aside?
Plan for up to 212 GB of available space depending on the device. This is Rockstar's published requirement for installing and playing GTA 6, also repeated in its preload FAQ. This limit does not mean that the downloaded file weighs exactly 212 GB on every console: Rockstar does not provide a separate transfer size for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Before November 10, free up space by deleting or moving games you no longer play. Check the available space on the selected console and follow the indication shown during installation. Rockstar's 212 GB limit is a storage requirement, not a universal measure of the transfer; a later update could change the actual space needed. See the official requirement.
The preload does not appear: useful checks
- It is too early: for a digital preorder, the announced start is November 10 at midnight on PS5 and 1 a.m. on Xbox in France. For the box, wait for the code to arrive and be activated; boxes are available from November 12.
- The wrong account is signed in: open the library for the account that placed the preorder or activated the code.
- The box code is missing: check the availability date and order status with the seller. Rockstar says boxes are available from November 12, without guaranteeing that every parcel will arrive that day.
- The code is rejected: on PS5, check the account and code region; on Xbox, verify the entry and the code status with the seller or Microsoft Support.
- The download is stuck: check free space, the connection and the queue, then follow PlayStation Support or the Xbox help available from the console.
