PAX West 2026: Monday, September 7 recap and final announcements

By Filo · · 13 min read

PAX West 2026 closed its doors on Monday, September 7 at the Seattle Convention Center, after four days dedicated to video games, developers and the community. Unlike the weekend, this final day did not bring a major new reveal: it mainly gave visitors one last chance to enjoy demos, tournaments and community events before the traditional Omegathon final. Persona 4 Revival, Stranger Than Heaven and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse remained among the most talked-about games of the show. Here is what to remember from the closing day, as well as the main announcements from PAX West 2026.

Key takeaways

  • A quiet closing day for announcements: no major reveal emerged specifically from Monday, September 7; the final day was mainly focused on demos and community events.
  • Persona 4 Revival: ATLUS’s remake was one of the main playable attractions at SEGA’s booth, with two demo scenarios.
  • Stranger Than Heaven: the next game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio was also playable and made its first steps in front of the North American public.
  • Castlevania: Belmont's Curse: KONAMI officially offered a playable demo of its new episode, expected in October.
  • Omegathon: its mysterious final was the last major official appointment of PAX West 2026.
  • Show recap: Civilization VII, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Persona 4 Revival were among the main titles that generated new information during the four days.

A final day aimed more at players than announcements

Monday, September 7 had a different role from the previous days. PAX West was open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seattle time, and the Expo Hall kept the same hours. For this last day, the official show website mainly highlighted the Omegathon final, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre. The official PAX West schedule confirmed these times. It is therefore important to distinguish articles published on Monday from announcements actually made on Monday. Several new reports and hands-on previews appeared on September 7, but they concerned games presented since Friday or panels held on Saturday. After checking the programmes and publications released around the closing day, no major AAA announcement comparable to Civilization VII appears to be specifically tied to Monday. This final day was therefore more about last hands-on sessions and the closing of the show than about reveals.

Persona 4 Revival: two demos to discover the remake

Persona 4 Revival was one of the major attractions at the SEGA/ATLUS booth. The game’s presence at PAX West was confirmed and represented one of the first opportunities for the North American public to play it. SEGA had announced in advance that Persona 4 Revival and Stranger Than Heaven would be part of its playable line-up. A report published after the show adds an interesting detail: two scenarios were available, one more focused on story and the other on combat. The action-oriented segment notably let players explore Yukiko’s dungeon with Yu and Yosuke. These details were covered in a hands-on preview published by Nintendo World Report.

The game’s panel, however, took place on Saturday, September 5, not Monday. ATLUS notably revealed a new trailer focused on Kanji Tatsumi, as well as the optional Pathfinder feature, designed to make dungeon navigation easier. Gematsu detailed this presentation. Persona 4 Revival will officially launch on February 18, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Steam, with availability also announced through Xbox Game Pass. SEGA also confirms that the remake reworks graphics, interface, combat and cinematics. SEGA details this information in its official release.

Stranger Than Heaven, SEGA’s other major attraction

Alongside it was Stranger Than Heaven, the next project from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. SEGA had planned playable demos of both titles at its booth, making PAX West one of the first public opportunities in North America to try them.

Early hands-on impressions notably describe a combat system that moves far enough away from the latest Like a Dragon games to give the project its own identity. Several time periods were represented in the demo and offered different combat situations. It was therefore not an announcement made on Monday, but Stranger Than Heaven is clearly one of the games that PAX West helped expose further through public demos.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse: KONAMI focuses on hands-on play

KONAMI had officially announced a booth present during all four days of PAX West, with Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Castlevania. A playable demo of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was explicitly part of the programme. KONAMI detailed its presence in an official communication. New impressions were still published after the show, as several journalists were able to try the game with Rose Belmont. The title, developed with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, is a 2D action-exploration game set in Paris in 1499, twenty-three years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Its release is officially planned for October 15, 2026. The official Castlevania: Belmont's Curse page confirms this date.

Here again, this was not a Monday-specific reveal, but it is a good example of what made the final day interesting: being able to try games before the doors closed.

Razer Clio X: one of the hardware announcements from the show

PAX West was not limited to games. Razer notably used the show to reveal the Razer Clio X, a new version of its audio cushion designed for gaming chairs. The manufacturer officially announced it on September 4, the opening day of PAX West. It includes two 38 mm speakers, 55 mm passive radiators, THX Spatial Audio and a HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz wireless connection. Razer presents the Clio X technical specifications on its official website.

The Clio X can work as a main audio system or as a rear speaker paired with a soundbar or a 2.0/2.1 system. It can be powered by a compatible USB-C PD 2.0 power bank, not included. Its official price is $109.99 in the United States and €109.99 on Razer’s European store, far below the original Clio model. It is therefore indeed a new PAX West 2026 product, but not an announcement from Monday.

PAX Unplugged Houston: PAX returns to Texas in 2027

PAX also used this edition to prepare its future with the announcement of PAX Unplugged Houston, a second version of the show dedicated to board games, card games and role-playing games. The event will take place from June 25 to 27, 2027 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. It will complement PAX Unplugged Philadelphia rather than replace it. This announcement also marks the return of the PAX brand to Texas after PAX South, whose last edition took place in 2020. GamesBeat detailed the announcement of this new Texas edition. Important clarification: the announcement dates back to Friday, September 4, and should therefore not be presented as a Monday reveal.

The Omegathon officially closes PAX West 2026

It is impossible to end PAX West without the Omegathon. This unusual competition randomly selects participants from show attendees and has them compete across different games and genres during the entire PAX. The official PAX website explains how the Omegathon works. After several rounds spread across the weekend, the competition was due to end with a secret final challenge, held on Monday in the Main Theatre. The PAX website officially listed this final at 5:30 p.m., only thirty minutes before the show closed at 6 p.m. At the time of our verification, the official Omegathon page did not yet clearly publish the result of the 2026 final. Out of caution, we are therefore not naming a winner until a sufficiently reliable source confirms it.

Which PAX West 2026 announcements should you remember?

If Monday was quiet, the full four-day recap is much richer. Some announcements can genuinely be considered highlights of this edition.

Civilization VII: Arc of Tomorrow and Earthrise

Firaxis and 2K delivered one of the show’s most concrete announcements during their Saturday panel. The free Arc of Tomorrow update, planned for 2027, will add a fourth age: the Atomic Age, covering roughly the years 1950 to 2050. It will also include new civilisations, new leaders, units, buildings, visual elements and mechanics. Firaxis also unveiled Civilization VII: Earthrise, the game’s first major paid expansion. Also planned for 2027, it will focus on the relationship between humanity, the environment and space conquest, up to missions in the solar system. 2K officially details Arc of Tomorrow and Earthrise in its PAX West press release. It is probably the most important announcement directly coming out of PAX West 2026.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Cid, Vincent and FITS explored further

Final Fantasy VII Revelation also occupied an important place, but one chronological nuance is essential. Square Enix had already revealed several of its new features during the September 3 State of Play, just before the show: the Highwind, the four FITS — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner — as well as Cid and Vincent. PlayStation detailed these features during the announcement. The panel “From Reunion to Resolve: Designing the FFVII Remake Trilogy” then took place on Saturday, September 5 at PAX West, with director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo. It mainly allowed the developers to expand on mechanics rather than start from scratch. They notably detailed Cid’s aerial style, Vincent’s mid-range combat and transformation ability, as well as the philosophy behind the FITS system. Nova Crystallis published a detailed panel report. This distinction matters: PAX West brought new details, but several major Revelation features had already been announced beforehand.

Persona 4 Revival: Kanji Tatsumi and Pathfinder

ATLUS used its Saturday panel to continue presenting Persona 4 Revival. The Kanji Tatsumi trailer was revealed there, and the studio presented Pathfinder, an optional aid that points players in the right direction inside dungeons. But the main interest of PAX was probably elsewhere: allowing the North American public to actually play this remake several months before release.

More than 300 exhibitors and a still-important place for indies

PAX West 2026 cannot be reduced to AAA productions. The full Expo Hall list exceeded 300 exhibitors, including publishers, manufacturers, independent studios, board games and merchandise. Ukiyo Studios notably presented 24 games, while the PAX Rising Showcase continued to highlight smaller productions such as Wolfhound or Lazy River. That is also what separates PAX West from a digital showcase: much of the event’s interest lies less in “world premieres” than in the chance to directly discover dozens of games, some of them still barely covered by the media.

PAX West 2026: a show more about games than announcements

This 2026 edition ultimately confirms PAX West’s special place in the video game calendar. The show had two Expo Halls, hundreds of exhibitors, panels, tournaments, concerts and spaces dedicated to indie games, tabletop and the community. Major announcements have not disappeared — Civilization VII is the best example — but they are no longer necessarily the core of the experience. Monday, September 7 illustrated that perfectly: no final conference packed with surprises, but one last day allowing visitors to try games, meet creators and watch the Omegathon conclude.

After PAX West, next stop Tokyo Game Show 2026

After Seattle, major gaming events continue in Japan. Find dates, conferences, tickets and all French times in our complete Tokyo Game Show 2026 guide. The video game calendar will now quickly move toward Japan. The Tokyo Game Show 2026 will take place from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe, an unusually extended five-day edition. The official Tokyo Game Show website confirms these dates.

Square Enix has already confirmed a major presence, notably with a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, while SEGA and ATLUS will present Persona 4 Revival and Stranger Than Heaven, among others. KONAMI has also revealed its programme, including Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and Silent Hill: Townfall. PAX West 2026 therefore ends without a huge last-minute surprise, but with four days rich in demos and several important announcements, especially for Civilization VII. After Seattle, all eyes are now starting to turn toward Tokyo. Game.fr will continue to follow the industry’s next major announcements, with Tokyo Game Show 2026 now in sight.
