Silent Hill 1 Remake: Release Date, Studio and Everything Confirmed

By Filo · · 15 min read

Update of October 17, 2026: the remake of the first Silent Hill, released in 1999, is officially in development at Bloober Team in close cooperation with Konami. The project was announced during KONAMI PRESS START on June 12, 2025, then explicitly confirmed by Konami in its corporate communications as a remake of the first game in the series. However, no release date, platforms or gameplay have been revealed yet.

Quick answer: yes, what players commonly call "Silent Hill 1 Remake" does exist. But this name is not yet the officially displayed commercial title: for now, Konami refers to a remake of SILENT HILL, while Bloober Team mentions a "SILENT HILL remake project." The Polish studio, which was already responsible for Silent Hill 2 Remake, is developing the project with Konami. As of October 17, 2026, no additional details about this remake—release date, platforms, engine, camera, combat, cast or music—have been confirmed.

The first Silent Hill remake is officially in development

Konami announced the project on June 12, 2025, during its KONAMI PRESS START presentation. The show ended with a short teaser indicating that a new SILENT HILL remake project was in preparation.

Bloober Team immediately confirmed that the remake was being developed by the studio in close cooperation with Konami. This point is important: it is not simply a rumor born from the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Konami later removed any ambiguity about which game was involved. In its report on its digital activities, the publisher said it was working on "a remake of the first game in the SILENT HILL series", alongside Silent Hill: Townfall and other developments around the franchise.

The official Silent Hill remake teaser

Bloober Team published this short official video when the project was announced. It confirms the project and the return of the fog, but it shows neither gameplay, characters nor the remake's final environment.

Why do people call it "Silent Hill 1 Remake"?

For Google searches and to distinguish the project from Silent Hill 2 Remake, the expression Silent Hill 1 Remake is logical. However, this practical name must be distinguished from the official title.

The first episode was simply called SILENT HILL. Konami currently refers to it as the remake of the first episode or the remake of SILENT HILL. Bloober Team also uses the wording "SILENT HILL remake project."

At this stage, no official logo bearing the title Silent Hill 1 Remake has been presented. If Konami ultimately chooses another commercial name, this page will need to retain the historical search term in its content while immediately adopting the official title.

What story should the remake retell?

Konami's official page summarizes the starting point of the 1999 game very simply. Harry Mason is traveling with his daughter Cheryl when a figure appears on the road. After avoiding the obstacle, their car leaves the road. Harry later wakes up and discovers that Cheryl has disappeared. He then sets out to find her in the town of Silent Hill.

This is the historical foundation of the first episode and therefore the material the remake must revisit. However, Konami and Bloober Team have not yet explained how extensively they will change the story, dialogue, supporting characters or different endings.

It would therefore be premature to write that every event from the 1999 game will be reproduced identically. The previous Silent Hill 2 Remake shows that Bloober Team can preserve a story's framework while expanding certain areas, adding scenes and modernizing the presentation. That is a precedent, not confirmation of the approach chosen for the first Silent Hill.

Camera: will the remake abandon the angles from the 1999 game?

This will probably be one of the questions that generates the most searches when the first gameplay is revealed.

The 1999 game used carefully designed camera angles, sometimes fixed and sometimes mobile. This direction contributed to the discomfort: players did not always have precise control over what they could see at the end of a corridor or around a corner.

For Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team chose an over-the-shoulder camera to bring players closer to James Sunderland. Konami also confirms that this previous remake expanded the explorable areas, modernized combat and added new scenes. This shift can be compared with that of Resident Evil 2 Remake, another modern reference point for close-camera survival horror.

But none of these changes is currently confirmed for Silent Hill 1 Remake. Automatically using the same camera would be an assumption, not information.

Combat: what can Bloober Team really change?

The combat system in the first Silent Hill reflects its era but also its protagonist. Harry Mason is not presented as an elite soldier: his movement and weapon handling contribute to his vulnerability.

A modern remake will likely need to rework controls, animations, collisions and readability. But the decisive question will be how far modernization can go without turning Harry into an action hero.

Bloober Team already reworked the combat in Silent Hill 2, but the studio has not yet given any equivalent indication concerning the first episode's remake. We therefore do not know whether melee combat, aiming, dodging or enemy behavior will follow the solutions used in the previous remake.

The fog: from technical limitation to an inseparable part of Silent Hill

Fog is one of the images most immediately associated with the series. On the original PlayStation, it helped conceal the draw distance, but the team transformed it into an aesthetic tool: players advance through a town whose dangers they can never fully make out. To continue this reflection on fear through scarcity and exploration, also see our analysis of The Sinking City 2.

Bloober Team's teaser plays precisely with this identity by announcing that "the thick fog returns." This confirms the fog's symbolic importance in the project's marketing, but not yet its visual rendering or actual role in gameplay.

For a modern remake, the challenge will be less about reproducing a technical limitation than recreating the same feeling of uncertainty. A much more detailed but overly readable town could lose some of the tension that defined the original.

Bloober Team returns after Silent Hill 2 Remake

Bloober Team's selection gives the project a direct continuity with the series' previous major reconstruction.

The Polish studio developed Silent Hill 2 Remake for Konami. The game, launched in October 2024, had surpassed five million units worldwide as of January 31, 2026, according to Konami. In May 2026, the publisher then stated that the title had surpassed six million total players.

These figures show the scale of the franchise's comeback, but this timeline should not be turned into a cause-and-effect claim: Konami has not publicly stated that the first episode's remake exists solely because of Silent Hill 2 Remake sales.

What is certain is that Bloober Team and Konami have extended their collaboration with this new remake.

Silent Hill 1 Remake is not Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

The confusion is understandable, since Silent Hill: Shattered Memories already revisited the first game's starting point. Released in Europe in 2010 on Wii, PSP and PS2, it notably reused the search for Cheryl while profoundly changing the characters, structure and game systems.

The new project is different. Konami officially defines it as a remake of the first game in the series. It is not an announced new version of Shattered Memories.

Do not confuse Silent Hill 1 Remake with the other current projects

Silent Hill 2 Remake Remake of the 2001 game Already available
Silent Hill f New story set in 1960s Japan Already available
Silent Hill: Townfall Distinct new episode Released on September 24, 2026
Return to Silent Hill Film Film project, not a game

To explore the saga's other current branches, Game.fr has already published a feature on Silent Hill f and its Ebisugaoka setting. Our recap of TGS 2026 Day 3 also covers the lengthy gameplay presentation of Silent Hill: Townfall.

Why Konami showed nothing in September 2026

The recent silence around the project is not an inference: Konami had announced it in advance.

For KONAMI PRESS START on September 3, 2026, the publisher added an explicit note to the official program page: no announcement concerning the SILENT HILL remake would be included.

The showcase therefore focused primarily on Silent Hill: Townfall and other Konami games. The absence of a new remake trailer during the event does not constitute an announced delay or a sign of cancellation.

On the contrary, Konami's corporate documents continue to mention the first game's remake among the franchise's productions in progress.

Konami is preparing other Silent Hill projects

In an interview published in October 2026, producer Motoi Okamoto explained that Konami was considering a second and third wave of Silent Hill games. However, he named no titles and provided no schedule. This statement sheds light on the franchise's general future, but does not specify the progress or release date of the first game's remake. PC Gamer reported these comments based on the Famitsu interview.

Does Silent Hill 1 Remake gameplay already exist?

No official gameplay had been published as of October 17, 2026.

Particular caution is needed on YouTube, TikTok and social media. Videos may use:

  • footage from the original Silent Hill;
  • sequences from Silent Hill 2 Remake;
  • fan-made Unreal Engine creations;
  • mods;
  • edits presented as concepts.

None of these videos becomes official remake gameplay without direct publication by Konami or Bloober Team.

When will Silent Hill 1 Remake be released?

No official release date or launch year has been announced.

Caution is important here. The fact that the project was announced in June 2025 does not automatically support a 2027 or 2028 release. Konami has provided no window.

Likewise, the platforms have not yet been specified. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC or another machine may seem plausible in the current context, but a probability is not confirmation.

What we expect from the first major presentation

The next important communication will need to answer some very specific questions:

  1. the remake's final commercial title;
  2. the platforms;
  3. an initial release window;
  4. the chosen camera;
  5. Harry Mason's new character model;
  6. the treatment of Cheryl and the other characters;
  7. how combat works;
  8. the reconstruction of the town of Silent Hill;
  9. the transitions between the foggy world and Otherworld;
  10. the role of the puzzles;
  11. the composer and treatment of the soundtrack;
  12. the engine being used.

What Bloober Team will need to preserve to remain faithful to the 1999 game

This section is Game.fr analysis, not information announced by the developers.

Harry Mason's vulnerability

Harry is not a professional action hero. A modernization of the combat should not erase this fragility, which contributes to the fear.

The fog and feeling of uncertainty

A better draw distance does not necessarily have to mean better visibility. The unknown is part of Silent Hill's identity.

Angles and direction

Whether or not Bloober chooses an over-the-shoulder camera, some of the original game's visual compositions are part of its horror toolkit. The remake will need to find a modern equivalent.

Puzzles and exploration

The first game does not rely solely on monsters. Observing environments, finding items and solving puzzles give the town its density.

The contrast between silence, music and industrial noise

Sound identity matters as much as graphics. The composer's name and how the historic tracks are handled will therefore be announcements to watch.
